Most people picture mobile detailing as someone turning up with a bucket, and assume they’ll need to hand over an outdoor tap and a spare outlet. That’s the part worth clearing up first: you supply nothing. The van carries its own water and power, so the job doesn’t depend on anything at your house.
Here’s what mobile detailing actually is, what happens when we arrive, and how to judge whether it’s worth paying for.
What mobile detailing means
A mobile detailer brings the whole setup to wherever your car is parked and does the work there. The car never leaves you, so there’s no drop-off, no waiting room and no second trip to collect it.
Most of our mobile car detailing work happens in Morris County and the counties around it, in driveways and parking lots rather than at a unit you drive to.
What happens at an appointment
Booking. Reach out before booking online. That’s what the booking page asks for.
Arrival. You’ll usually get a text when we’re on the way.
The inspection, before any work. Every vehicle is inspected on arrival and a final price is presented before anything starts. The prices on the website are starting prices, and the final number depends on the condition the car’s actually in. You hear it before we begin.
The work. What’s included depends on the package. An exterior job runs from a pre-rinse and a hand wash with pH-neutral soap, through drying with microfiber towels, wheels and tires, windows inside and out, and a spray-on sealant. An interior job covers a full vacuum, a deep clean of the console, dash, doors, door jambs and plastic trim, windows, and leather seats scrubbed where the car has them. A deep interior clean adds shampoo and extraction of cloth seats and carpets, which lifts dirt out of the fabric rather than off it.
Paying. You pay once the work’s finished, by debit card, credit card, cash or Zelle.
If plans change. There’s a $50 fee if an appointment is cancelled within 24 hours of the booking, and the same fee applies if we arrive and can’t agree on a final price. Worth knowing before you book rather than after.

Where we can work
Driveways, parking lots and residential streets all work. The only real requirement is room to pull the work vehicle up next to yours, with enough space to move around the car while we work.
That covers most situations people ask about:
- At home. The usual one, and the easiest.
- At work. Plenty of jobs happen in an office lot while the owner’s inside working. The car’s ready when they come out.
- Apartment and condo lots. These usually come down to the property’s own rules rather than ours, so it’s worth a quick check with the building or the management company first.
What you need to have ready
Not much:
- Take your personal items out. We don’t touch personal belongings, so anything you want moved should come out before we start.
- Sort out access. Make sure we can get to the car, and that the keys are arranged.
- That’s it. No water, no power, no equipment, no cleaning up beforehand.
Could you just do it yourself?
You can, and for a quick wash it’s fine. What changes the maths is everything a proper detail needs beyond soap: a machine, the right products for leather against fabric against clear coat, and a few hours you’re not spending on something else. Buy all of it for one car and it costs more than the detail did.
The other half is what goes wrong. The wrong cleaner on leather, a sponge that drags grit across paint, or an interior shampooed and left damp are all easy to do and slow to undo.
How long it takes
By package, from our services page:
- Exterior Express or Interior Deluxe: 1 to 2 hours
- Interior Ultimate, with shampoo and extraction: 1.5 to 3 hours
- Full Detail Mini: 1 to 1.5 hours
- Full Detail Deluxe: 2 to 3.5 hours
- Full Detail Ultimate: 2.5 to 4 hours
The hours aren’t the point, though. They’re hours you spend at home or at work rather than in a waiting room, and nobody drives anywhere twice.

So is it worth it?
It depends what you’re comparing it with.
Against an express tunnel wash, it’s a different job. A tunnel wash takes the loose dirt off in a few minutes, and for a car that’s just dusty, that’s the right call. Detailing is hand work on a car that stays still for hours, and it reaches what a wash never touches: the carpets, the seats, the door jambs, the wheels.
Against doing nothing, the case is stronger for cars that live outside. A car that sits under trees, carries kids or a dog, or spends a winter on salted roads collects things that don’t come off with a rinse.
There are limits worth knowing. We can take out minor scratches and swirl marks in the clear coat, but scratches that go through the clear coat and into the paint can’t be corrected by detailing, and we can’t remove dents. If that’s what your car needs, it’s a body shop, not a detail.
How often, and which package
For most cars, a full detail once or twice a year with lighter upkeep in between is plenty, and how often you should detail your car depends mostly on where it lives and who rides in it. A car parked outside under trees with kids and a dog in the back needs more than one that lives in a garage.
Choosing between packages is simpler than it looks: exterior work is for paint that’s stopped looking cared for, interior work is for what’s built up inside, and a full detail is both in one visit. Starting prices for every package and add-on are on the website.
